Mauritius All-Inclusive Packages: Pros and Cons

If you're considering a holiday in Mauritius and have been looking at all-inclusive packages, you can also look at the bigger picture and get an idea of the pluses and minuses of these packages. Often your entire holiday can be ruined by the thought that you've picked the wrong kind of package so consider all sides of the issue before you decide.

Let's hear the good news first:

Big cost-savings: Though your all-inclusive package may seem expensive when you pay upfront, as the holiday passes, you'll realize how economical it can be. For one thing, you're getting five or four-star accommodation with all meals, snacks and drinks included. If you had to walk into a star hotel or resort every day of your holiday and pay the standard rates there for your meals, you could find yourself really strapped for cash at the end of your vacation. Basically, your vacation is a pre-paid one, so you really don't need to dip into your wallet too often unless you're opting for extras or doing some serious shopping. Tips, incidentals/surcharges may be the only final reckonings you have to make.

Lots to do: Most resorts and hotels have a range of activities/sports. With its fabulous beaches, great beach/water-sports, sightseeing, climbing, trekking, cycling etc, gardens and parks, Nature Reserves like Turtle Bay, marine parks and golf courses, Mauritius is indeed a vacationist's dream. In all-inclusives you can use all the amenities of the resort. For kids and teens, there are supervised activities to keep them busy and safe. Free salon and spa treatments, massages or wellness treatments, yoga, golf, WiFi, live-bands, shows and concerts may all be included in the package.

Stress-free: A great attraction of all-inclusive is that you're completely relaxed. When traveling with a group or family or even as a couple or a single traveler, you may find that the experience of having things taken care of is extremely relaxing. Traveling with kids can be stressful in itself – here the different needs of each person can be catered to, in terms of meals, activities and schedules. You're also not racing around from venue to venue, so you unpack and pack only once!

Regarding the minuses:

Restricted: With this package, you're really stuck in one place and you don't get to see the rest of the “real” country aside from the resort. You also don't get an authentic feel of the culture, traditions, arts and crafts since most resorts have a standard look and feel.

Extras: These can add up if you opt for them. If people want different options, this is going to cost.

Hidden costs: Taxes, surcharges etc may drive your final bill quite high if you haven't budgeted for these. All-Inclusive packages may differ from resort to resort.

Work out all the details before you embark on your dream-vacation in Mauritius!
